The Camas Restoration

Built in 1904 in the heart of Camas, Washington, this historic home was once considered a candidate for a tear down. Decades of wear had taken a toll on the structure, and bringing it back meant far more than cosmetic updates. Kieffer Projects took the home down to the studs and rebuilt it from the ground up, balancing historic preservation with the structural work needed to make it safe and sound for decades to come.

Every decision on this project weighed the same question: how do you honor the character of a 120 year old home while giving it the bones to last another 120 years? That meant sourcing hard to find materials that matched the home’s original details, reinforcing and re supporting the existing foundation, and carefully restoring the pieces that made the house feel historic in the first place.

The home’s foundation had deteriorated significantly over more than a century, putting the entire structure at risk and pushing the property toward tear down territory.

The homeowners wanted to preserve the original 1904 character of the home, which meant standard modern replacement materials and methods would not do the house justice.

Our team re-supported and reinforced the existing foundation, addressing decades of structural wear and giving the home a stable base built to last for generations.

We sourced and restored hard to find period appropriate materials throughout the home, preserving its original character while updating the structure to meet modern standards of durability.

Before and After

What started as a home many people had written off became one of the most meaningful projects Kieffer Projects has taken on. Restoring a house built in 1904 means working with materials, methods, and details that simply are not made anymore, and matching that craftsmanship takes patience and a genuine respect for the original build. By reinforcing the foundation and rebuilding the structure from the studs out, we gave this Camas home the durability it needed without erasing the history that made it worth saving. The result is a home that honors its past while being fully ready for whatever comes next.

“Our house was built in 1904, and honestly, more than one contractor told us it might be easier to tear it down and start over. Kieffer Projects saw it differently. They took the time to understand what made this house special to us and figured out how to save it, right down to reinforcing the foundation that had been failing for years. Watching them source materials that actually matched the original details of the house was incredible. We didn’t just get a renovated house, we got our history back with a structure that will actually hold up for our kids and grandkids. We’re endlessly grateful.”
